History & Genealogy
Clarke County, with its rich history and heritage as an county that pre-dates the state of Alabama, is often host to genealogical researchers who trace their roots back here. The Probate Office at the Courthouse has developed a partial list of cemeteries, and some have full or partial transcriptions of the grave markers available. A project to identify all of the cemeteries in the county is now underway. There are several places for genealogists to find information about their Clarke County ancestors. The best sources would be the Clarke County Probate Office, the downstairs records room at the Courthouse, the Grove Hill Public Library, and the Clarke County Museum in Grove Hill.
